The winners of Prix du Nord 2023 were Anna Haidai, 14 years old (junior division) from the Royal Swedish Ballet School, Stockholm Sweden and Alexander Mockrishs, 16 years old (senior division) from Royal Swedish Ballet School, Stockholm Sweden.

Anna Haidai performed two classical variations, a female variation from Grand pas classique and Odette variation from Swan Lake act ll. Alexander Mockrishs performed Colas variation from La Fille Mal Gardée act ll and the contemporary solo Les Ombres du Temps.

There are 3 winners in each division. Third place, second place and first place. The winners share the amount of 2.400 EUR.

Winners of the Special Scholarship

The Grand Finale special guest Claudine Andreo, Artists Director of Jeune Ballet Méditerranéen Ballet Competition gave out two special scholarships to Helle Flood, 15 years old, Norwegian National Ballet School Norway and Alexander Mockrish, 16 years old, Royal Swedish Ballet School, Stockholm Sweden.

The Competition 2023

Kronhuset, Gothenburg

Two years ago, talented youngsters compete digitally due to the pandemic, but this year we could finally meet live and for the first time the competition was held in the City of Gothenburg.

12 pre-professional schools in the Nordic and Baltic countries have participated in this year´s competition.

Prix du Nord is a non-profit event whose task is to create a context where the next generation of dancers can meet, share experiences and dance together. The purpose of the competition is to motivate young dance talents in the Nordic and Baltic countries and contribute to their dance elite education.

We where very happy to finally be able to invite all schools in the Nordic and Baltic countries to the City of Gothenburg for Prix du Nord 2023. It was nice to see the next generation dancers from our part of the world meet and dance together during the three days here in Gothenburg, says Sebastian Michanek, Artistic Director of the Prix du Nord.

The Jury

The chairman of the jury was Jonas Kåge, former Artistic Director of Malmö Ballet, Ballet West Salt Lake City and Prix du Nord 2012-2020. The other jury members were, Joseph Study, Ballet Master at the Royal Swedish Ballet, Choreographer and Artistic Director of Focus Dance and former dancer at
Béjart Ballet Lausanne, Peter Bo Bendixen, Artistic Director of the Tivoli Ballet Theatre Denmark and former dancer at the Royal Danish Ballet dancer, Johanna Björnson, Artistic Board Member of the Carina Ari Foundation and Dancer of the Royal Swedish Court and Hlín Hjálmarsdóttir, Contemporary Ballet Master and Choreographer at Royal Swedish Ballet and former dancer at the Icelandic Dance Company.

Next year the competition will like this year be held at Kronhuset in the City of Gothenburg with the Swedish National Ballet School again as the host.

The semifinal will take place on Friday April 22nd 2024, and the grand finale will be held on Saturday April 23rd 2024. Information will be presented at our website prixdunord.org.

This year we had 44 competitors, 26 of them competed in the junior division and 18 of them in the senior division. 15 competitors were selected in the semifinals to compete in the final, 8 competitors were selected from the junior division and 7 competitors was selected from the senior division.
